There are a lot of companies out there, each one telling you they can get rid of your bed bugs. But what’s their process? Are they safe to work with? With Heron Home & Outdoor, we’re committed to eco-friendly and safe pest control. We use a method called Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, which allows us to use the safest, least-harmful solution with every treatment.

Bed Bug Treatment Process

Treatment options really depend on the size of the infestation, the size of the infested area, and any considerations you as the homeowner might have.

Chemical Treatment for Bed Bugs

Our chemical treatment is a highly effective and more economical solution for bed bug elimination. During treatment, eco-friendly materials including dust, liquid and aerosol are strategically applied in high infestation areas throughout the infested areas. Your Heron Home & Outdoor technician will:

  • Treat wall outlets, baseboards, and door and window frames.
  • Treat headboard, mattress, box spring and bed frame.
  • Treat upholstered furniture, nightstands and dressers.
  • Treat chairs, desks, cabinets and dividers.
  • Treat behind wall hanging items.
  • Treat closets and lockers.
  • Create a full report describing the treatment and how you can protect your home or facility from further infestations.
  • Treat all other suspected areas that may harbor bed bugs
  • Create a full report describing the treatment and how you can protect your home or facility from further infestations.
  • Treat all other suspected areas that may harbor bed bugs.

A follow-up visit will be scheduled approximately 7-10 days after your initial treatment. During the follow-up visit, your Heron Home & Outdoor Technician will inspect for further bed bug activity and retreat any areas where activity may still exist.

Thermal Heat Treatment for Bed Bugs

During the initial visit, our technician will thoroughly inspect your facility to look for evidence of bed bug activity. In most cases, a bed bug infestation can be accurately assessed by your Heron Home & Outdoor technician. However, in cases of detecting low-level infestations in large areas, a bed bug dog may be a more affordable and effective option. Heat treatment is the most successful method of eliminating all life cycles of bed bugs without utilizing any pesticides or chemicals. Thermal pest control is safe and effective, involving increases or decreases in temperature to eradicate pests. Here’s the basic process:

  • Special thermal protective blankets are placed over items that might be damaged by temperature changes, like pianos, electronics, and vinyl windows.
  • Our expert thermal pest control technicians set up tarpaulins to control cold air or heat in a targeted area.
  • Probes are placed into the wooden structure at several points to measure temperature.
  • Special air heaters/ducts pump cold or hot air into the area.
  • The temperature within the room or area is carefully monitored.
  • The process can take between four to six hours, or until the core temperature of the thickest wood reaches 130 degrees for a full hour. After the thermal treatment is complete, all of the equipment is removed, and a final inspection is completed.

Total Treatment of Bed Bugs

Bed bug control and elimination requires trained professionals. It takes hard work, professional experience, and follow-up treatments to ensure the infestation is entirely gone. Heron Home & Outdoor will work with you to make sure your needs are taken care of, any problems are addressed, and we won’t stop working until the bed bugs are gone for good.
